1. Werther says “ That the life of man is but a dream is a thought which has occurred to many people, and I myself am constantly haunted by it” at the beginning of the letter written on May 22. What is he trying to tell us, we people everywhere? If Werther also see the life of man as a dream, does his dream of life have any difference from others’? [ Be sure to give evidences to strengthen your opinions.]
Everyone in the world may think “that the life of man is but a dream”because we are limited by many causes. Then everything we do that just prolonging our miserable existence is nonsense. In my opinion, I think that everything besides our inner self is not control by myself so when I in my inner self , I can depend on my feels not the outer world’s limits. The most important thing is that I can do anything in my dreams.
For example,if you have an idea which you think nice on your program but you may not use it.Why? Because it’s may limited by others advices. Then you can’t do anything you want when in the real live but it’s different in your inner .
And I think that Werther’s thought is the same as others. He wanted to live in his dreams and many people, too.

2. How does Werther think of children? Why does he think that the happiest people in the world are like chidren? [ Be sure to give evidences to strengthen your opinions.]
He thought the children are happiest in the world.
Because the children can do many nonsense things and they don’t need any reason. For example, they can play the dolls, putting their clothes on or off.And they don’t have any problem in their live. They always happy than any person in the world because they don’t know what is evil.

3. What kind of person does Werther think he is? What are the characteristics of the youngWerther you learn from the letter on May 22?

In my thought, Werther wanted his inner is free, not control or limited by anything. Just like what he said “And then everything swims before my senses and I go on smiling at the outer world like someone in a dream.”
Then I saw Werther is misanthropy on May 22 because he thought this world isn’t the same as he thought. And he wasted so much time to think many thing that he didn’t need to worried.I thought he may a little 多愁善感 and always say something nonsense. In my opinion, he just afraid to face the real.

    Hey, Jamie,

Good sharing and opinions in your Essay One. Everyone owns his or her unique inner world. No one can knows better of the inner world than the owner himself/herself. Of course we can always be the boss in our own world, but to live in the outer world, which frankly speaking is to live with other people, we always have to make some compromise. Maybe the major sorrow of Werther, who is also the embodiment of many naive teenagers with ideal minds, is how to make a compromise with the outer world, how to deal with people who are different from him. Maybe that’s the question. Your thoughts?

Good viewpoint in your Essay Two. Children don’t know much about evil, or they show little intentions of evil and that’s what makes Werther thinks they are better and kinder than other adults he meets. Do you think so?

Great work you done in Essay Three! Very sharp analysis of Werther.

You earned an A for your good work!
